Dear residents, friends and relatives, welcome again to our quarterly newsletter which we hope you will enjoy. Through this we like to keep everyone informed of all the news and developments happening at Alt-na-craig.

Highlights from the Telegraph

Chrons & Colitis

Last year we held a coffee morning and thanks to all the staff, residents, families and friends we raised £650 for Crohns & Colitis. On the 15th February, we were invited to Inverclyde Hospital to meet the team of doctors and nurses who specialise in this department. They were absolutely delighted with the cheque and assured us that it would be put to good use.

St Andrews Day

Alt-Na-Craig’s recreational team organised a Saint Andrews Tea Dance which was held in St John’s Church Hall in Port Glasgow. Ten care homes from the Greenock area came to the dance and thoroughly enjoyed it. All the residents had a fantastic time. The Greenock telegraph came along and took pictures of the event. The reporter and photographer were amazed at the number of residents who were able to get up and dance and enjoy the  event.

Staff Concert

Once again the staff concert was a sensation; the number of residents who attended was the best we have had to date. The staff choir sang their hearts out. Martha and Claire performed their adaptation of the Steamie and the residents loved the Scottish banter, they were fantastic.

Thank you again to everyone for donating gifts for the raffles and the Christmas Hamper, £350 was raised it was an absolutely brilliant effort.

Christmas Carol Singers

During the festive season many schools and nurseries came to Alt-Na-Craig to entertain the residents. The children sang Christmas carols and performed Nativity Plays and they were all wonderful. The children’s performances are one of the resident’s firm favourites at his time of year and they thoroughly enjoy chatting to the children.

Christmas Seagull Trust

For the first time the residents had a trip to the Christmas Seagull barge. The day of the trip was like a summers day, the sun was shining. Santa came aboard and gave each resident a lovely gift. After our lunch Santa and the crew started singing Christmas Carols to the residents then we went for some ice-cream. It was a really memorable day.

Saint Valentine’s Day

The residents had a special St Valentine’s Day. They had a Valentines party and were entertained by Douglas Jenkinson who was wonderful and sang many of the resident’s favourite songs.

Bingo at the James Watt

The James Watt Pub invited the residents along for a free game of Bingo with tea, coffee and biscuits. The residents thought this was great and thoroughly enjoyed it, so much so they decided to stay for lunch and a glass of wine. It was a lovely day.

St Patricks Day

We had the famous Christian come into Alt-Na-Craig and help celebrate Margaret Bain’s 90th birthday and also Pat Toland’s. what a sensation he was, the residents absolutely loved him they were all up dancing and singing along with him. He sang all their favourite songs from the sixties right through to modern day with a few Irish jugs as well.

Mother’s Day

The ladies of Alt-Na-Craig had a lovely Mother’s Day celebration. They were given some lovely gifts with a beautiful poem and a rose.
