Welcome again to our quarterly newsletter which we hope you will enjoy. Through this we hope to keep everyone informed of all the news and developments happening at Alt-na-craig.

Kings Kids Charity

Over the last few months the residents have taken part in a number of fundraising events, and the result of their efforts was that they handed over a cheque for £630.00 to Cheryl Mattow, who is the leader of Kings Kids, which is a charity which raises funds for orphans who live in Indonesia. She thanked all the residents for their invaluable help in raising this amount of money. It will go towards the costs of much needed supplies for their education.

Fashion Show

One of the events held to raise funds for the charity was a fashion show. M&Co supplied the outfits and staff members May, Laura, Sandra and Liz made the modelling look easy as they walked up and down the catwalk showing off the lovely clothes. The show ended with cheese & wine.

This year we went to The Chart Room in Inverkip. There were about 130 people there, all from different care homes, all dressed up in various Halloween costumes. We had a beautiful three course lunch. Entertainment was provided by The WOOPI Singers and the May Hughes School of Dancing. We had a fantastic day out.

Evening Entertainment

We have held a couple of evenings of entertainment for the residents. At one of them the residents had a Cantando Evening with the Greenock Light Opera Company, and at another the residents were given a Country & Western Concert with the Clydeside Singers.

We also the had the Alt na Craig’s Got Talent night, where staff and residents performed in front of a panel of judges. The winner was May Clarke who had the whole of the audience and other competitors singing along with her. We ended the night with pie & peas.

St Andrews Day Concert

Our St Andrew’s Day concerts were wonderful. “Retro” were all dressed in tartan and were great at engaging with the residents. Music in Hospitals gave the residents a concert. “Rosalbo” consisted of two ladies, one a pianist and the other a singer, and were very entertaining, singing lots of the traditional Scottish songs.

Once again it was great to have Betty Stewart along from WOOPI. The crafts are very therapeutic forthe residents. She has some great ideas, which the residents enjoy, whether helping or even just watching how to make the craft. Our scrap book was launched on 4 November. It is filled with precious memories of some of the events the residents have enjoyed over the years. Latterly they enjoyed making the Christmas decorations and wreaths for the coffee morning.

Bus Outings

For the last couple of weeks the residents have been enjoying their Christmas trips, including two trips to the Cardwell Garden Centre, which is one of the resident’s favourite places to visit at this time of year. The Garden Centre looks and feels like Santa’s Grotto with all the beautiful decorations and trees on display. The residents enjoy looking around and some were able to buy a few Christmas presents.
Another favourite was the trip to Braehead. The decorations in the mall were beautiful. The residents really enjoyed their lunch of cheese burgers, chicken nuggets & chips, followed by ice cream at Joe De Lucci’s.

Carol Singers

As usual we will be having local schools coming here over the festive period to entertain the residents with their carol singing
